Summer is on its way! And that means parties, fun in the sun, and cocktails! "Mixed drinks are some of the most inherently un-clean foods you can put in your body, with their sky-high sugar and calorie counts," Prevention reports.
But there are plenty of mixed drinks that won’t wreck your diet. Here are 10 super-yummy low-cal summer cocktails:
Mojito

1. Mojito

It is easy making a mojito lower in calories. All you have to do is request half the sugar or add some crushed watermelon. To make a light mojito, combine a few crushed cubes of watermelon with fresh mint, rum, and sparkling water.

Margarita

2. Low-Cal Simple Margarita

Though most traditional margaritas contain up to 400 calories or more, this one doesn’t. To make a margarita that’s less than 200 calories, combine a shot of tequila with lime juice and a splash of triple sec. Shake with ice and serve.

Strawberry Daiquiri

3. Berry Daiquiri

This low-calorie berry Daiquiri is only 150 calories per serving. To make it, start with one cup of fresh berries, then add rum, ice, and sweeten with stevia. Blend together, and you’re done!

gin and tonic

4. Gin and Tonic

Though tonic water usually has as many calories as soda, you can make any gin and tonic low-cal by substituting tonic with seltzer water and adding some lime juice.

Vodka and Iced Tea

5. Vodka Iced Tea

To make this 80-calorie cocktail, use diet lemonade combined with sweet-tea flavored vodka over ice. Light and refreshing, this drink is perfect for summer.

Pina Colada

6. Piña Colada

Piña coladas can have up to 500 calories per drink because of the sugary, coconut milk mix required to make it. But if you use rum that’s infused with coconut flavor instead, you can eliminate 300 calories. Mix one shot of coconut rum with fresh strawberries, some agave syrup, and blend with ice.

Shochu Cosmo

7. Shochu Cosmo

Shochu is a Japanese liqueur that has a smooth finish. "Low in alcohol (22 to 25% by volume) and sugar," Health reports, "a typical shot of shochu has only 26 calories, compared with 59 for sake and 97 for vodka." Combine that shot with diet cranberry juice, fresh lime, and orange juice, and you’ve got yourself a skinnier version of a classic cosmo.

Peach Bellini

8. Bellini

This traditional Italian cocktail is usually high in calories and sugar. But you can make a skinnier version by using two ounces of peach nectar mixed with four ounces of champagne. Mimosa lovers can use the same trick to cut back on calories: Just use half the orange juice.

Tom Collins

9. Tom Collins

A typical Tom Collins contains a syrupy mix of sugar and other calorie-loaded sweeteners. This low-cal lemongrass version uses vanilla vodka instead of gin. Add a splash of lime juice and some sparkling water flavored with lemongrass to complete it.

Asian cocktail

10. Asian-Flavored Cocktail

To make this low-cal Asian-fusion cocktail, mix ginger vodka and lime sparkling water. It’s a cocktail that has only 90 calories per serving.

Drink to Your Health

With some simple substitutions you can cut some of the guilt from fun cocktails. And there are other things you can do. "Staying within the limits of moderate drinking -- one for women and up to two drinks per day for men -- is another way to watch your calories and your waistline," WebMD notes. Here's to lookin' hot all summer long!
