Best infused vodka recipes

There are so many interesting flavors of vodka to choose from nowadays  from lavender vodka to chili vodka, the choices are endless. But you don't have to spend all your money buying artisanal vodkas at the store. You can easily make your own infused vodka at home. Here's how.

All you need is a few simple ingredients and some equipment

Making your own infused vodka at home is super easy and cheap. All you need is some high-quality plain vodka, mason jars, and ingredients such as vanilla bean, dill, or whatever you choose to flavor your vodka with.

Choose plain vodka

This is because you'll want to layer in your own flavor. Stay away from vodkas that have strong notes of floral or citrus.

Invest in some quart and half-gallon wide mouth mason jars

lass is important to use since it won't impart any "off" flavors to vodka the way a plastic jar might. And the wide mouth allows you to infuse the vodka with whatever you want.

The sky is truly the limit ingredients wise

You can infuse vodka with herbs and spices, vanilla bean, lemons, apples, beets, berries, etc. Whichever ingredients you choose to infuse the vodka with, make sure you prep them. If you're using vanilla beans, you'll want to split the beans. If you're using herbs, you'll want to bruise them first. Use a handful of flavoring ingredients for each quart of vodka. You can always reinfuse the vodka a second time if the flavor is not strong enough the first time around.

Store it for a week

The alcohol will preserve any of the infusing ingredients. Be sure to shake the jar twice a day.

Strain it and discard the infusion ingredients

You'll want to pour the infused vodka into a clean jar. Vodka infused with perishable ingredients should be stored in the fridge. But if you use shelf-stable ingredients, like dried fruits and spices, you can store the infused vodka at room temperature.
