Summer is almost here! Time to plan an escape to one of these ten US beaches where the beautiful people go.

1. KAANAPALI BEACH, MAUI

Maui’s Kaanapali Beach is a hugely popular strip of coastline. One of the most beautiful beaches in the US, it is some three miles long. There you can surf, snorkel, and sunbathe. Plus, you can stay in one of several notable hotels, dine at any one of a number of celebrated restaurants, golf, and shop at the famous Whalers Village open-air shopping center.

2. OUTER BANKS, NORTH CAROLINA

You probably don’t think of North Carolina as having islands and gorgeous beaches. But it’s true. The Outer Banks, a chain of barrier islands off that state’s coast, offer fishing, windsurfing, swimming, and wildlife watching. Also, you can dive to and explore any one of some 3,000 shipwrecks. Each island offers rugged dunes and secluded beaches along with water sports and beach shops. And you’ll find an abundance of natural beauty right at your fingertips.

3. WAIKIKI BEACH, OAHU

4. HENDERSON BEACH STATE PARK, FLORIDA

One of the most popular vacation spots on the Florida Panhandle, Destin is nicknamed the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” This city’s Henderson Beach State Park offers white sand beaches as well as nature trails, spots for grilling and picnicking, and campsites. “Sunset is an idyllic time at the park,” reports Hip Camp. “Many families come here to unwind and have pictures taken to remember their vacation on the Emerald Coast.” And if you ever get bored with this beach, Destin has Crystal Beach and lots of other beaches to check out.

5. SOUTH BEACH, FLORIDA

You’ve heard of the South Beach Diet. But have you ever been to the beach itself? Nicknamed the “American Riviera,” South Beach is one of the best vacation areas in the country. “In this dreamland at the southern tip of Miami Beach,” the New York Times reports, “you can choose your own adventure.” In Lummus Park especially, you’ll find white sand, clear blue water, volleyball nets, and people-watching opportunities. The intense beauty and nature makes you feel as if you’re no longer even in the US.

6. COLIGNY BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA

Located on Hilton Head Island, Coligny is one of the most popular beaches in the U.S. It offers plenty of food options, clean facilities, and soft sand. Access to the beach is free, and it sits on Coligny Circle right across from the Coligny Plaza shopping area. You can also go bike riding along the beach.

7. ISLA BLANCA PARK, TEXAS

Located on the southern edge of South Padre Island, Isla Blanca Park offers the best beaches anywhere in the US. Its fees are affordable and coastline pristine and clean. You can also boat, swim, fish, and hang out in the recreation areas there. What’s more, it’s the site of one of South Padre’s largest attractions — the statue of El Cristo de los Pescadores.

8. CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE, MASSACHUSETTS

“Quaint fishing villages, kitschy tourist traps and genteel towns — the Cape has many faces,” Lonely Planet notes. “Each attracts a different crowd.” This 40-mile stretch of coast has some of the best beaches on Cape Cod — Nauset Beach, Marconi Beach, and Herring Cove Beach. 9. FORT LAUDERDALE BEACH, FLORIDA

Fort Lauderdale Beach is perfect if you like a quieter beach without all the partying. Like Miami Beach, it has soft, light-colored sands and clear water. There you’ll also find a palm tree–lined promenade where you can eat and shop. There are also water sports and beach chair rentals.

10. LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA
