7 Ways To Dress Like You Have Money

You don't need a lot of money to appear well put together, classy, and sophisticated. In fact, money can't buy a well developed sense of fashion (even wealthy people can still look tacky). If you're on a budget, but you want to appear classy and rich, here are seven ways to look like a million bucks for just a few bucks.

1. Handbags

Quality handbags are worth the investment, but keep an eye out for sales. You should choose a sturdy, durable handbag with a classic design, such as a top-handle bag or a cross-body one. Make sure to choose a neutral color, such as black, beige, or brown. Steer clear of bold, funky colors that won't match with a lot of different outfits. Once you've purchased a handbag, you can keep it in good shape by using window cleaner on patent leather or leather ointment on regular leather bags. A classic handbag is a must for appearing richer than you actually are.

2. Coats

Look out for classic coats in neutral colors that never go out of style, such as a belted trench coat, black leather jacket, raw denim jacket, and a black peat coat. Once again, check for these jackets at discount designer stores or during sale season.

3. Shoes

You should land some classic, high-quality shoes on sale, and keep them in good condition. You should invest in some name-brand sneakers as well as leather sandals, heels, flats, and boots. Look for European brands at discount clothing stores or thrift stores. Once you've purchased your staple shoes, keep them in good condition by polishing and cleaning them on a regular basis.

4. Watches

The number one way to appear richer than you are, is to sport an expensive watch, such as a Cartier, Movado, Gucci, or TAG Heuer piece. Watches tend to go on sale during and right after the holidays, so you can easily snag a high-quality designer watch at a great price. Keep your watch looking shiny and new by polishing it on a regular basis.

5. Sunglasses

If you want to appear classy, find some high quality sunglasses to sport, preferably designer ones in a classic design. Ray-Bans are a great brand to invest in, and you can find them cheap online, especially if they are gently used.

6. Jewelry

Use inexpensive jewelry to accessorize your outfits. You should choose jewelry that looks expensive, but doesn't come across as fake. For instance, instead of purchasing a large necklace made from rhinestones, opt for a classic set of pearl earrings and necklace. Similarly, choose stud earrings made from cubic zirconia that give the impression they're actually diamonds. When it comes to jewelry, less is more. Choose clear crystals, darker metals, and jewelry that has some weight to it.

7. Classic attire

When it comes to skirts, dresses, pants, and shirts, stick with the classics. This means investing in a fitted pair of jeans, pencil skirts, white button-down blouses, scarves, blazers, and cardigans. Make sure each piece you buy fits you well. If it doesn't fit you perfectly, take it to the tailor. Whatever you do, you should avoid trends at all costs.

New call-to-action

If you want to pass for wealthy on a budget, you should:

• Avoid logos

Usually, more expensive brands don't advertise on items. Steer clear of clothing and accessories that have logos on them; you'll look cheap.

• Wear red lipstick

Red lipstick is always in style, and it flatters every skin tone. Wear it to complete your sophisticated look. Choose a cool-based red lipstick to make your teeth appear whiter.

• Avoid distressed clothing

Distressed clothing is usually just a trend, and it comes off as looking old and worn out.

• Limit how frequently you wash clothing

Once you've invested in some classic, sophisticated pieces, you should try to wash your clothes as little as possible. This is because washing them wears down fabrics and fades colors, making them appear old. Instead, spot clean items or have them professionally dry cleaned. Always wash clothes according to their instructions, but preferably on delicate in cold water.

• Dress up clothing items

An easy way to make a shirt look more expensive is to replace plastic buttons with buttons made of metal, bone, or pearl.

• Use self-tanner

Most rich people are tan. To easily make yourself appear a little darker, simply use some spray-on tanner.

• Pay attention to personal grooming

Make sure your skin, teeth, hair, nails, and toes flatter you. This means a classic hairstyle, such as a bob, white teeth, and regular pedicures and manicures. Choose neutral nail polish and opt for neutral makeup that's not overdone.

• Cover up visible tattoos

Most rich people don't sport tattoos. If you have visible tattoos, you should cover them either with clothing or foundation. There certain waterproof foundations are made for covering up tattoos.

• Avoid earthy colors

Unfortunately, earth tones are dated and come across as drab. Instead, opt for a wardrobe consisting of neutral colors along with jewel tones and pastels. If you want some patterns and prints, stick with leopard spots.

• Shop thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, consignment shops, and discount clothing stores

You can easily find designer and classic pieces for a fraction of the cost, and no one will ever know.

• Steer clear of embellishments

Embellished items tend to look dated, and they easily fall apart fast. The less embellished a clothing item is, the better.
