Summer’s the time to showcase all your assets in that cute bikini. You already have great skin. But if you want to make sure you look extra silky and soft, follow these 10 grooming tips for beach season:

1. Remove unwanted hair

The only visible hair on you should be on your head. Invest in a good Brazilian wax. "Waxing removes hair from the root," beauty blog Fashionista notes, "which keeps your skin hair-free for around 2-3 weeks." Better yet, undergo a few laser hair removal sessions. These will permanently reduce your body hair by up to 90%.

2. Moisturize

Your skin should be silky soft, not rough or dry. Eliminate dead skin on every visible body part — your arms, legs, thighs, feet, ankles. For a quick DIY exfoliant combine one cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of olive oil and the juice of one lemon. Massage the mixture into clean, damp skin. The sugar exfoliates as the olive oil moisturizes. The lemon juice brightens your skin, improving your complexion.

3. Minimize cellulite

You have cellulite anywhere your skin looks like an orange peel. To minimize its appearance you have to eat right and exercise regularly. Also, you can combine one cup of used coffee grounds, one cup of sugar, and 3/4 cup almond oil to form a paste. Then after taking a hot shower, you can massage the mixture into cellulite-prone zones using small, circular strokes. Leave the mixture on for 15 minutes. Then rinse with cold water. You should notice temporarily smoother skin.

4. Get a pedicure

This is a must if you plan on wearing sandals or going barefoot. Begin by soaking your feet in warm, soapy water for 30 minutes. Then gently scrub them using a pumice stone in a circular motion. Rinse with cold water and towel-dry. Slather on some foot cream, and wrap your feet in plastic wrap so that the oils and moisturizers penetrate your skin’s outer layer. Remove the plastic wrap, and then put on clean socks and wear them overnight.

5. Deep-condition your hair

"Try a natural deep conditioning treatment once a week to get that extra bit of moisture into your hair," Treehugger recommends. And before going into salt water, be sure to cover your hair with cream hair conditioner. It protects your hair from damage caused by water and sun.

6. Groom your eyebrows

Have this done professionally or do it yourself by first numbing the area with an ice cube, and then using tweezers to pluck stray hairs. Make sure you pull hairs in the direction of their growth.

7. Get a manicure

All you need is an emery board, cuticle clippers, a cuticle pusher, nail polish remover, cotton balls, and nail polish. Trim nails straight across to prevent their becoming ingrown.

8. Apply a self-tanner

This will give you color without risk of sun damage. "Use a gradual tanner ... so that you can monitor your tan and avoid going overboard," Hello recommends. Also, be sure to get help from a friend to avoid orange streaks or white patches.

9. Exfoliate your knees

Gently use a pumice stone on rough or discolored skin on your knees. Another option, recommended by Vogue, is dry-buffing with a stiff-bristled brush. Follow this by putting on some rich skin cream. Apply lemon juice to darkened skin. This will lighten it.

10. Use sunscreen

Consistently using sunblock before going out into the sun helps to prevent premature aging and skin damage. Make sure to apply sunblock especially formulated for your face to avoid breakouts.

Look fabulous at the beach or poolside

The season for picnics, cookouts, and beach relaxation, summer is time for a looser, freer look. You shouldn't let it get too loose, though. Subtle laid-back touch-ups can give you a beachy, bohemian appeal that'll carry you all the way to autumn.
