Winter weather can be a beast to your skin. But you can stop it in its tracks with one of these four all-natural body scrubs you can make at home.

  • Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub

Containing brown sugar and sweet almond oil, this body scrub moisturizes as it sloughs away dead skin cells.

    Prep time: 10 min

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup fine brown sugar
    • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
    • 20 drops vanilla essential oil

    Directions

In a glass bowl, add the vanilla essential oil to the brown sugar, stirring thoroughly. Then add the sweet almond oil gradually, stirring continuously. Stop when the scrub resembles the consistency of moist sand.

  • Grapefruit Bergamot Salt Scrub

    Prep time: 10 min

This invigorating body scrub contains exfoliating salt and moisturizing sweet almond oil.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup finely ground salt
    • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
    • 8 drops grapefruit oil
    • 8 drops bergamot essential oil

    Directions

In a glass bowl, add the bergamot and grapefruit essential oils to the salt, stirring thoroughly. Then add the sweet almond oil gradually, stirring continuously. Stop when the scrub resembles the consistency of moist sand. But be careful: This scrub will sting if you use it immediately after shaving your legs.

  • Cinnamon Orange Coffee Body Scrub

    Prep time: 15 min

Though this scrub is a bit unconventional, it gently exfoliates, thanks to its fine coffee grounds. Plus, the caffeine in the coffee helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup ground coffee
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 8 drops orange essential oil

    Directions

Mix the ground coffee, salt, cinnamon, and orange essential oil in a bowl. Then add the almond oil slowly, stirring consistently until the mixture reaches the consistency of moist sand.

  • Lavender Oatmeal Body Scrub

    Prep time: 10 min

Ideal for sensitive skin, the lavender and oatmeal in this scrub calm irritation.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup ground oatmeal
    • 20 drops lavender oil
    • 1 tablespoon dried lavender petals

    Directions

In a bowl, add the lavender oil drop by drop to the oatmeal, stirring constantly to avoid clumps. Store in an airtight jar in the fridge. To use, combine one tablespoon of the mix with some water until a paste forms. Then rub the paste gently on your skin.

Tips for silky soft skin all winter

  • Dry-brush daily

Rub your skin all over with a natural bristle brush in an outward circular motion. This stimulates circulation, reduces the appearance of cellulite, and removes dead skin cells.

  • Use a moisturizing body wash

Many body washes contain extra moisturizers, including antioxidants and skin-firming ingredients in them. Some body washes even contain alpha hydroxy acids and glycolic acids for mature skin.

  • Moisturize with coconut, argan, or another all-natural oil

Try putting your favorite oil in a spray bottle to keep in your shower. After you’re done showering, spray it all over your body.

  • Apply sunscreen daily

Forgetting to apply sunscreen can lead to premature aging. Apply a moisturizer to your body each day and reapply as needed. This will help to protect your skin.

  • Buy a humidifier

This will keep the air in your house at an optimal moisture level.

  • Eat more healthy fats

Ingesting such healthy fats as avocado and olive oil will help to keep your skin lubricated and moisturized and prevent cracks.

  • Take warm rather than hot showers

Although it’s tempting to take hot showers, don’t do it. The heat dries out your skin by stripping it of its natural oils.

Four-season fabulous skin

Commercial body scrubs contain artificial fragrances and other ingredients, and these can trigger allergic reactions. A DIY body scrub, on the other hand, puts the control over ingredients back in your hands. It also removes dead skin cells and moisturizes.
