summer beauty routine

Summer is right around the corner. And that means it's time to switch up your beauty routine. Why? Because as the season changes, so does your skin. You'll need new beauty and skincare products that are more temperature appropriate. Need some help revamping your beauty routine? Here are six ways to transform it for summer:

Switch facial cleansers

1. Switch facial cleansers

As summer arrives, you might notice that your skin is oilier than usual. This is because temperature changes can spark an increase in oil production. You should reach for a cleanser containing salicylic acid that'll help dry up excess oil.

Check out CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser that exfoliates and detoxifies skin to remove dirt and oil while softening and smoothing skin.

To combat even oilier skin, you should follow up with a toner that contains salicylic acid to dry out skin.

Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solutions Clarifying Toner is made of naturally derived salicylic acid and witch hazel to help prevent breakouts.

Exfoliate

2. Exfoliate more often

Rising temperatures can cause oil buildup on the skin, resulting in clogged pores. This is why you should exfoliate more often during the summer months.

Look for a gentle facial exfoliator, such as Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub that removes dirt, oil and dead skin cells without irritating skin.

Apply a lighter moisturizer

3. Apply a lighter moisturizer

Due to all the humidity in the summer, your skin will already be more moisturized. You should switch over to a light moisturizer during the summer months so your skin doesn't become too greasy.

Try out Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture with SPF 15. It's a lightweight, water-based formula that's gentle and won't leave your face feeling greasy or looking shiny.

Wear a BB cream

4. Wear a BB cream

A lot of foundations are too heavy to hold up in the heat. That's why you should switch to something lighter, like a BB cream.

Clinique Acne Solutions BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 40, for instance, is a mattifying BB Cream specifically developed for oily skin. It combines oil control, buildable coverage and UVA/UVB protection for a protected, shine-free complexion.

Add SPF

5. Add SPF

Of course, you should be using SPF all year round, but this is especially true during the summer months. Wear either foundation or a moisturizer that contains an SPF of 30 or higher.

LA Beauty's BFF SPF 50 Sun Protector is a whipped, hydrating sunscreen that provides superior, broad-spectrum protection against daily UVA and UVB sun exposure, oxidative stress, and pollution.

Protect your hair and scalp

6. Protect your hair and scalp

With summer comes lots of fun in the sun. Just as your skin needs SPF, so too do your hair and scalp.

Supergoop! 100% Mineral Sunscreen Mist SPF 30 provides physical UV protection and 80-minute water resistance in an easy-to-apply mist. It's meant to protect your scalp from the sun's harsh rays.

Living Proof Restore Instant Protection Spray is a weightless spray that adds shine and polish while protecting hair against heat and UV damage.

Don't toss out every beauty product

Making the transition to summer doesn't mean you have to toss out all your beauty products. Instead, make small tweaks to your beauty routine to ensure your pores don't become clogged and your skin doesn't age prematurely.
