9 Skin Fitness Resolutions to Make in 2020 for a Radiant Complexion

2020 is finally here! What will your resolutions be for this new decade? You’ve probably resolved to eat healthier, travel more, and save up…but what about your skin? Here are nine skin fitness resolutions to make this year for a radiant complexion:

1. Moisturize after showering

Warm water strips the skin of its natural oils, affecting the protective lipid barrier. That’s why it’s important to moisturize immediately after showering. To make this even easier for you, keep body lotion right in the shower and apply it to still wet skin to seal in moisture.

2. Wear sunscreen every day

To prevent premature lines and wrinkles from forming, you should apply an SPF 50 or higher every day to all exposed areas regardless of the weather. Choose waterproof formulas for the body and hypoallergenic ones for the face.

3. Take off makeup before going to bed

Sometimes taking off makeup right before bed is inconvenient, but leaving it on can result in breakouts and clogged pores. Leave makeup remover wipes on your nightstand to make taking off your makeup right before bed even more accessible.

4. Shower right after the gym

During workouts, you probably sweat a lot, which can clog pores and promote bacterial growth on the surface of the skin. That’s why it’s extra important to shower right after your workouts. In fact, not showering can result in unsightly body acne on the butt and back.

5. Wash makeup brushes regularly

As you use makeup brushes daily to apply makeup, they can trap dirt, sweat, bacteria, and dead skin cells. But washing your makeup brushes once a week can nip blemishes and other skin issues in the bud.

6. Exfoliate once or twice a week

Skin replenishes itself approximately every 28 days. You can jump-start the renewal process, though, by exfoliating the skin once or twice a week using a gentle face scrub or a chemical exfoliant.

7. Stop touching your face

While it might be tempting to squeeze a pimple, don’t do it. The mere act of touching your face with your hands contaminates skin with dirt and oil that only further clogs pores. Instead, apply a hydrocolloid dressing to zits and leave them be.

8. Stick with it

It takes time to see results from a new skincare regimen, so don’t give up. For example, it can take up to six weeks before you see results from an excellent anti-aging cream. The same also goes for skin lighteners and acne products.

9. See your dermatologist yearly

You should see your dermatologist at least once a year for a mole check, even if you’re diligent about monthly exams. You can also use this visit as an opportunity to discuss your skin fitness and how you can improve it.

Last but not least: Invest in the right skincare products

Your skin fitness regimen is only as good as the skincare products you use. Be sure to invest in a high-quality hyaluronic acid serum, retinol overnight cream, SPF, and an AHA peel.
