Which Laser Treatments are Best for AcneAcne can be debilitating. Not only can it be challenging to treat, but active acne often leaves behind unsightly scars. Rest assured, though, laser treatments can help. When it comes to laser treatments for treating acne, it all depends on whether you're treating active acne or acne scars.

LED and Isolaz treatments are best for active acne

The first option for treating active acne is LED therapy. It stands for light-emitting diode, which is a skin treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light to improve the appearance of the skin. Blue light is primarily used to treat inflamed acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It's able to penetrate the skin's hair follicles and pores, which harbor bacteria that cause inflammation, leading to pimples.

LED blue light treatments kill acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, decrease pain associated with blemishes, reduce redness, and speed up the healing time of inflamed acne.

Each treatment lasts 30 minutes or less. Typically, to achieve noticeable results, most people undergo four-to-six treatments for mild-to-moderate active inflamed acne, with maintenance appointments every six months. Best of all, blue light therapy has no downtime or side effects.

The second option for treating active acne is the Isolaz Acne Laser. It is the only FDA-approved laser that combines a vacuum with a painless laser to purify pores. The Isolaz can treat all forms of acne and clogged pores. It works by helping to loosen and extract dead skin cells, blackheads, and excess oil from deep within the pores. A painless flash of light also goes off during the vacuuming process, which destroys acne-causing bacteria and promotes faster healing.

One treatment lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. During the procedure, most people experience a painless, warm sensation similar to a warm massage. After treatment, you can resume normal activities. To achieve noticeable results, four-to-six treatments are recommended.

Clear + Brilliant is the go-to treatment for shallow acne scars

Clear + Brilliant is a non-invasive laser that gently resurfaces the top layer of the dermis by creating millions of microscopic treatment zones in the skin. It stimulates collagen production and generates healthier tissue, reducing the appearance of shallow-to-moderately shallow acne scarring and discoloration.

A single Clear + Brilliant treatment lasts under 30 minutes. During it, most people experience a prickling feeling and an increased sensation of heat, but with little-to-no discomfort. To maximize results, you should get four-to-six treatments spaced two weeks apart.

CO2 resurfacing is ideal for treating deep-pitted acne scars

CO2 resurfacing is the best way to treat deep-pitted acne scars. It works by vaporizing skin cells damaged at the surface-level, which causes the remaining skin cells to resurface the areas that have been removed from the laser. CO2 resurfacing stimulates an increase in collagen production, reducing the appearance of deep scars.

A CO2 treatment lasts about an hour, and it is considered an invasive procedure. Before the treatment, your skin will be numbed with local anesthetics. But, for extensive resurfacing, you might be sedated. It takes up to two weeks to fully recover from a single treatment. Most people experience significant results in the three-to-six months following treatment.

Whatever your specific acne needs and concerns are, there's definitely a laser treatment that can help!
