Banish dry winter skin with these easy-to-make body scrubs

Winter weather can be brutal on your skin by drying it out, resulting in a dull, rough complexion. But you can stop it in its tracks with one of these four all-natural body scrubs you can make at home:

1. Vanilla brown sugar scrub

Containing brown sugar and sweet almond oil, this body scrub moisturizes as it sloughs away dead skin cells. Prep time: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fine brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
  • 20 drops vanilla essential oil

Directions

  • In a glass bowl, add the vanilla essential oil to the brown sugar, stirring thoroughly
  • Then add the sweet almond oil gradually, stirring continuously
  • Stop when the scrub resembles the consistency of moist sand

2. Grapefruit bergamot salt scrub

This invigorating body scrub contains exfoliating salt and moisturizing sweet almond oil. Prep time: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup finely ground salt
  • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
  • 8 drops grapefruit oil
  • 8 drops bergamot essential oil

Directions

  • In a glass bowl, add the bergamot and grapefruit essential oils to the salt, stirring thoroughly
  • Then add the sweet almond oil gradually, stirring continuously
  • Stop when the scrub resembles the consistency of moist sand

3. Cinnamon orange coffee body scrub

Though this scrub is a bit unconventional, it gently exfoliates, thanks to its fine coffee grounds. Prep time: 15 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground coffee
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 drops orange essential oil

Directions

  • Mix the ground coffee, salt, cinnamon, and orange essential oil in a bowl
  • Then add the almond oil slowly, stirring consistently until the mixture reaches the consistency of moist sand

4. Lavendar oatmeal body scrub

Ideal for sensitive skin, the lavender and oatmeal in this scrub calm irritation. Prep time: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground oatmeal
  • 20 drops lavender oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender petals

Directions

  • In a bowl, add the lavender oil drop by drop to the oatmeal, stirring constantly to avoid clumps
  • Store in an airtight jar in the fridge
  • To use, combine one tablespoon of the mix with some water until a paste forms.
  • Then rub the paste gently on your skin

Fabulous skin no matter the season

Commercial body scrubs contain artificial fragrances and other ingredients, and these can trigger allergic reactions. A DIY body scrub, on the other hand, puts the control over ingredients back in your hands. It also removes dead skin cells and moisturizes for silky-soft skin all winter long.
