5 DIY Moisturizing Face Masks That Soothe Dry Winter Skin

There isn’t much a good face mask can’t help with — whether it’s destressing from a hectic day at work, zapping blemishes, or calming irritated skin. This is especially true during the winter, when skin dries out easily, resulting in dryness, redness, and dullness. Luckily, all you have to do is look to the contents of your fridge for a quick moisturizing pick-me-up. Check out these DIY face masks that soothe dry skin.

1. Honey, watermelon, and potato mask

While this mask might sound unusual, it contains some serious skin-boosting properties, such as antioxidants and phytonutrients to heal and nourish the skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato
  • 1/2 slice of watermelon
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

Directions:

  • Boil the potato until soft, and then mash it until you get a “mashed potato” consistency
  • Blend watermelon and add the honey
  • Mix all ingredients together and apply to dry skin
  • Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water

2. Oatmeal honey mask

This classic combo combines oatmeal, which is a gentle exfoliant, with honey that has ultra-moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

Ingredients:

  • Oatmeal
  • Raw honey

Directions:

  • Grind oats in a food processor to make them smaller
  • Mix them with enough raw honey to create a paste
  • Apply to dry skin and leave on for 20 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water

3. Aloe vera honey mask

Did you know that aloe vera is a super moisturizing ingredient that speeds your skin’s ability to heal? Not only that, but it also fights inflammation and is high in antioxidants.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon raw honey

Directions:

  • Mix the aloe vera powder and honey together in a bowl
  • Apply with hands to dry skin
  • Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse with warm water

4. Avocado, honey, and strawberry mask

You can achieve glowing skin with the same ingredients you would use to make a smoothie. This mask offers the perfect blend of antioxidants and moisturization.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small avocado
  • A few mashed up strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

Directions:

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl, making sure the consistency is smooth
  • Apply to damp skin on the face and neck
  • Leave on for ten minutes and rinse with warm water

5. Yogurt, avocado, and honey mask

Avocado is rich in healthy fats and antioxidants, which means it’s great for calming and moisturizing the skin. Yogurt also contains good-for-you fats, calcium, and magnesium to help heal and soothe dry skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 3 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Directions:

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl
  • Apply to damp skin and leave on for 15 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water
