9 Tips for Seamlessly Transitioning Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

The do’s and don’ts of transitioning your wardrobe for fall

As summer comes to an end, and the weather cools down, you don’t have to put all your summer clothes into storage. Here are nine tips for seamlessly transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall:

1. Embrace blazers

During the summer, you probably reach for cardigans to stay warm in the AC in a sundress, but a dark blazer is a fall-appropriate twist. Sport one over a lacy tank or dress for an outfit you can wear both inside the office and out.

2. Invest in a leather jacket

Leather jackets are the perfect fall accessory. They can transform shoulder-baring maxi dresses into autumn attire. Plus, fall is all about layering clothes.

3. Wear more whites

Whoever said that you couldn’t wear white after Labor Day is wrong. Pair white summer blouses with autumnal colors, such as khaki and burgundy.

4. Update your makeup

Pick beauty products that look more fitting for fall, such as earth-toned nail polish and deep creamy lipstick.

5. Keep the beach bag

You don’t have to ditch your beach bag. As long as it’s a neutral color and design, you can still use it as an everyday carryall.

6. Swap out your shoes

If you’re wearing sandals, your toes could feel icy as temperatures drop. Pack away your sandals, and instead wear closed-toe shoes, like boots, loafers, and pumps.

7. Don’t forget a scarf

The easiest way to keep warm weather clothes warm is to throw a scarf over them. You can also mix patterns, such as stripes and florals, which can be surprisingly neutral.

8. Put on tights

Afraid to wear that short sundress? It can still work as the weather cools down. Wear thick, opaque tights to keep your legs warm during the chilly months.

9. Tone down bright colors

You can still wear colorful skirts and shorts if you pair them with darker clothes, such as black tights, a grey t-shirt, or a chunky sweater.
