6 Signs It’s Time to Break Up

How to tell that a relationship has run its course

Breaking up with a partner is never easy, but agonizing over whether you should break up or not can be even more taxing. It’s normal to be indecisive, especially when you can’t figure out the problem. Here are six signs it’s time to break up:

You feel bored

1. You feel bored in the relationship

If you’re feeling unsatisfied, even though the both of you do cool things together, that probably means it’s time to break up. This is especially true if you find yourself disengaging from your partner.

2. You feel triggered

2. You feel triggered

Does your partner trigger anger in you most of the time? If you feel like you’re going to lose it every time your significant other tells you the same story, then it might be time to end things. And if their presence irritates you even on good days, then you definitely need to break up.

3. You don't want to have sex

3. You don’t want to have sex

Does the very idea of having sex with your partner repulse you? That’s a super bad sign. If you’re no longer into sex with your partner, and you keep on making up excuses to avoid it, then you might want to consider calling it quits.

4. You dread hanging out with your partner

Do you dread having to spend time with your significant other? Are you actively avoiding your relationship by choosing to hang out with friends instead? If so, it might be time to move on.

5. You fight more often

5. You fight more often

Have you and your partner been fighting more often? Are your fights straight up hurtful? If you notice that your fights feel toxic, you feel isolated, and you’re starting to show contempt for one another, it’s probably for the best that you break up.

6. You wish your partner would change

6. You wish your partner would change

If you want your significant other to change as a person drastically, it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. Waiting for anyone to change their internal qualities takes a ton of effort, willpower, growth, and hard work. If you’re not willing to stay with your partner as they are right now, you should slit up.

Time for a change

Bottom line — if you find that you can no longer tolerate your partner, and you’ve tried to work it out with them multiple times, then it’s definitely time to break up. Though breaking up with someone is never easy, you’ll feel so much better having your freedom back.
