2021 Year in Review: The Top 5 TikTok Skincare Trends

Top TikTok skincare hacks 2021

It’s no surprise that TikTok is full of useful — and interesting — beauty, skincare, and wellness content. While some of the stuff that’s gone viral this year can seem super out-there (re: nose blush), other pieces of beauty advice have actually been really helpful. Interested to learn more about which hacks and techniques went viral this past year? Check out the top five TikTok skincare trends of 2021:

1. Slugging

Slugging is one of TikTok’s biggest beauty hacks. The trend originated in South Korea and involves covering your face with a thick moisturizer or vaseline and then leaving it overnight to hydrate the skin. Most dermatologists agree that slugging can be an excellent way to lock in moisture and repair a damaged skin barrier. Be sure to only do slugging as an occasional overnight treatment since slugging regularly can result in breakouts.

2. DIY turmeric, milk, and honey face masks

Many beauty influencers on TikTok have taken to creating DIY face masks made from turmeric, milk, and honey. This one skincare trend is actually really effective and beneficial. Turmeric can work wonders for the skin, brightening it. The lactic acid found in milk has gentle exfoliating properties, and honey is known for its anti-inflammatory effects.

3. Wet skincare

TikTokers are making simple changes to their skincare routines just in time for winter. One such tweak that’s gone viral is wet skincare. This skincare method consists of applying all of your skincare products to slightly damp skin to trap more moisture in the skin. It’s legit, too — most skincare products contain humectants, and they work better in humid environments (like when your skin is damp).

4. Double cleansing

This skincare hack has been around for a while, but it’s finally made the round on TikTok. Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your skin twice: first with an oil-based cleanser, and then again with a water-based cleanser. The dermatologist-approved skincare hack gets skin ultra-clean by breaking down makeup, oil, and more. This means that your skincare products will work more effectively since they can penetrate the skin better.

5. Skin icing

This trendy TikTok skincare hack uses ice cubes to cool down your face. Rubbing ice on your face every morning can help address redness, puffiness, and dullness. Ice can also help with inflammatory conditions like acne. Skin icing works by causing blood vessels to constrict, reducing redness, pain, and swelling, and it also stimulates circulation, resulting in glowy skin.

Make 2021’s TikTok skincare trends a part of your skin fitness routine

Though some TikTok viral beauty trends are a bit zaney (and a few even downright dangerous), others, like slugging and double cleansing, can actually help you maintain good skin health. Pair these beauty hacks with minimally-invasive skin treatments, like Clear + BrilliantJuvéderm, and Botox, to achieve optimal skin fitness.
