4 Tips for Relieving Dry Skin According to a Skin Expert

How to relieve dry skin

Whether you suffer from dry skin year-round or experience it seasonally, like during the winter months, it’s essential that you adapt your skincare routine accordingly to help keep your skin soft and smooth. Luckily, Camille Morgan, Director of Skincare at LaserAway, is here to help. Camille shares her top four skincare tips that are necessary to combat dry skin:

1. Mind your cleansers

Some cleansers contain ingredients, such as harsh sulfates and alcohol, that can be very drying. Most skin experts recommend using gentler cleansers formulated with coconut foaming agents that help balance the skin’s pH levels. If you want a cleanser that’ll leave your skin comfortable and hydrated, look for one that also contains hyaluronic acid. LaserAway Beauty’s Come Clean Purifying Face Wash is a gentle cleanser that removes dirt and makeup while moisturizing skin. It is formulated with a hyaluronic acid complex and doesn’t contain any harsh sulfates.

2. Exfoliate weekly

Dead skin cells easily build up over time on the skin’s surface, causing it to look dull and lifeless. Those dead skin cells act as a barrier, preventing creams and serums from fully working their magic. But, exfoliating with either a physical or chemical scrub two-to-three times a week can help slough off dead skin cells. This allows your skin to absorb skincare products more effectively.

3. Start with damp skin

If you just hopped out of the shower or just finished washing your face, don’t wait. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the best time to apply your skincare products is when your skin is still damp. This is because your skin absorbs skincare products more readily and can lock in hydration, which is crucial for drier skin types.

4. Use a humidifier

A humidifier can do wonders for your skin, all while you’re sleeping! Seasonal changes, air conditioning, and indoor heaters can all contribute to dry skin. But a humidifier adds back moisture to the air, helping to bind it to the skin.
