6 Ways to Transform Your Beauty Routine for Summer

How to update your beauty routine for summer

Summer is right around the corner. And that means it’s time to switch up your beauty routine. Why? Because as the season changes, so does your skin. You’ll need new beauty and skincare products that are more temperature appropriate. Need some help revamping your beauty routine? Here are six ways to transform it for summer:

1. Switch facial cleansers

As summer arrives, you might notice that your skin is oilier than usual. This is because temperature changes can spark an increase in oil production. You should reach for a cleanser that won’t weigh you down and is designed for sensitive skin yet still effectively removes makeup without drying out the skin, such as CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser.

2. Exfoliate more often

Rising temperatures can cause oil buildup on the skin, resulting in clogged pores. This is why you should exfoliate more often during the summer months.

Look for something gentle that exfoliates the skin surface, breaking up dead cells and adding hydration without causing irritation, like Sephora Collection Brightening Dual Facial Enzyme Exfoliator.

3. Apply a lighter moisturizer

Due to all the humidity in the summer, your skin will already be more moisturized. You should switch over to a moisturizer that’s on the lighter side during the summer months, such as The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan, so your skin doesn’t become too greasy. Look for a product that replenishes the skin’s natural moisture for smooth, plump skin without heaviness or greasiness.

4. Wear a BB cream

A lot of foundations are too heavy to hold up in the heat. That’s why you should switch to something lighter, like a BB cream.

Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Beauty Balm SPF 40 with Niacinamide hydrates, conceals and protects skin for a natural look.

5. Add SPF

Of course, you should be using SPF all year round, but this is especially true during the summer months. Wear either foundation or a moisturizer that contains an SPF of 30 or higher.

Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily Skin Tint SPF 50 is a hydrating sunscreen that provides superior, broad-spectrum protection against daily UVA and UVB sun exposure, oxidative stress, and pollution.

6. Protect your hair and scalp

With summer comes lots of fun in the sun. Just as your skin needs SPF, so too do your hair and scalp.

Supergoop! PLAY 100% Mineral Body Mist SPF 30 provides physical UV protection and 80-minute water resistance in an easy-to-apply mist. It’s perfect for protecting your scalp from the sun’s harsh rays.

Living Proof Restore Instant Protection Sprayis a weightless spray that adds shine and polish while protecting hair against heat and UV damage.

Don’t toss out every beauty product

Making the transition to summer doesn’t mean you have to toss out all your beauty products. Instead, make small tweaks to your beauty routine to ensure your pores don’t become clogged and your skin doesn’t age prematurely.
