8 Things Women Expect From a First Date

New to the singles’ scene? Here are eight things you must do to make a first date go well.

1. Go the extra mile

Though it’s nice to greet a woman with a warm smile and possibly a bottle of wine or a rose, you should try to be less stereotypical in your thinking. If you happen to have learned what she likes, you should use this to your advantage. For instance, if she likes certain music, consider burning her a mix CD. If she loves orange, consider giving her flowers of that color. If she loves reading, giving her a copy of your favorite book will speak volumes. Try to be as creative as possible and you’ll be sure to leave a positive impression.

2. Don’t be a lout

For most women, manners are everything. They pay attention to what you do and don’t do. While on the date, remember to hold the door open for her and chew with your mouth closed. If you relate anecdotes, be sure to steer clear of any that are too crude or involve bodily fluids.

3. Compliment her

All women love to feel appreciated. Say something nice about her hair, outfit, or the perfume she is wearing. Remember that the she spent a lot of time getting ready for the date. Be sure to acknowledge her efforts in some way.

4. Ask her about herself

No woman likes a man who only talks about himself. Instead of discussing only your accomplishments and hobbies, be sure to ask her lots of questions about herself and her interests. This will let her know that you truly want to get to know her as a person. And you’ll show her that you’re not selfish or egotistical. Be careful, though, that you don’t turn the date into an interview. Let the conversation flow naturally.

5. Make conversation

Nothing is more of a buzz-kill than nothing to talk about. Make sure to keep the conversation fun, lighthearted, and meaningful. Not only ask her questions; also reveal information about yourself. Discussing work and family is fine, but you’ll also want to take a more creative approach by asking your date what sports she plays best or what animal she’d want to be if she could. If you find your date discussing sensitive topics, that’s OK, too. But don’t force uncomfortable or difficult subjects on her.

New call-to-action

6. Show her that you’re confident but not aggressive

There’s a difference between being assertive and being aggressive. For instance, when you’re interacting with the waiter, make sure you’re courteous. Don’t ever raise your voice or give commands to your date or others. If you’re going to see a movie together and it’s sold out, be humorous and good-natured about it.

7. Have a backup plan in mind

It’s important to have a backup plan prior to your date in case a movie or concert you wanted to take her to is sold out, or in case there are no tables available at your favorite restaurant. Your date will most likely be super impressed by your creativity and problem-solving skills. And she’ll note your easygoing nature. Though you don’t have to plan in great detail, it’s good to have some ideas; a backup option is better than no option at all.

8. Impress her

The goal of your first date is to leave her feeling impressed and eager for second. Try walking her to the door and offer a polite end to the evening. This will leave her wanting more. Give her a polite kiss, which shows her that you respect her as a person and that you aren’t just looking for sex.

Rules of attraction

Dating can be difficult, especially if you’re meeting women online. Though landing a first date is huge, it’s only half the battle. The second half is keeping the date in question engaged and interested. By keeping the above tips in mind, you’ll be able to do just that.
