7 Hacks for Shedding Female Facial Hair

Solutions to female facial hair

Fuzzy cheeks can be caused by a number of reasons. You may have Hirsutism, polycystic ovary syndrome, Cushing’s syndrome, or simply too many male hormones in your endocrine system. For some, the added whiskers are simply an annoyance. For others, however, the hair can feel something that requires never-ending maintenance. If you’re not sure where to start, here are eight ways of dealing with facial hair:

1. Get your hormones checked

Did you know that imbalanced hormones can cause excessive hair growth? Checking and working to level out your androgens with an endocrinologist may provide some relief.

2. Shaving

This isn’t an ideal treatment, but it will help you to control your facial hair. Shaving daily can help you avoid stubble growth, but be cautious of razor burn as a potential side effect.

3. Tweezing, waxing, and threading

These methods can cause pain and redness, but they pluck hair out at the root, which means you won’t have to do them so often.

4. Depilatories

With this method, you apply cream to your face that destroys the hair follicle, and then wipe it off. Depilatories can irritate skin, though, so be careful with how often you’re applying.

5. Electrolysis

This expensive procedure zaps hair at the root with an electric current. You’ll need to repeat the process a few times to permanently remove hair.

6. Birth control pills

Birth control makes your body produce fewer male hormones. So with regular use, you should facial hair lessen.

8. Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal helps you to manage facial hair safely, effectively, and quickly in as few as four sessions. Best of all, you’ll never have to experience ingrown hairs, razor burn, or thickened hair follicles ever again.

End the hair scare

Excess hair growth in women is mainly caused by excess male hormones called androgens. Chief among these is testosterone. It can also be due to genetics or certain medications. Certain syndromes, like polycystic ovary syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome, also cause excess facial hair. It’s important to get checked out by a medical professional to rule out any life-threatening conditions.
