Everything You Need to Know About the New Thermage FLX

What is Thermage FLX?

Thermage is a kind of skin-tightening treatment that uses radiofrequency. In short, it tightens the skin on the face, neck, or body using heat. Thermage is one of the most effective non-invasive methods for tightening loose, crepey skin. Recently, Solta Medical has released its latest and fourth generation of the device, the Thermage FLX, which offers improved results and faster, more comfortable treatments.

Want to learn more about how Thermage FLX can take your aesthetic goals to the next level? Chief Medical Officer of LaserAway and celebrity dermatologist Dr. Will Kirby answers the most commonly asked questions:

1. Who is a good candidate?

There are two types of candidates for Thermage FLX. The first is someone in their 40s or 50s who is starting to notice loose skin, and wants to tighten and lift that skin. The other type is someone in their 20s or 30s who wants to preserve and maintain the level of collagen they already have. That’s because Thermage FLX produces new collagen and stimulates collagen growth while maintaining already fabulous skin.

2. What areas can I treat?

The most popular areas to treat for Thermage FLX include the entire face and upper eye area. Many patients also get their neck area treated when they start to feel loose skin develop around the jawline. The best thing about Thermage FLX is that you can basically get it anywhere on the body, including the chest, abdomen, and thighs.

3. What can I expect from the treatment?

The treatment starts with the placement of an ink grid. This is a map that the clinician uses to figure out how much energy they will be imparting into which section of the skin. At that point, the clinician will take a handpiece and apply it to the skin. This is where it’s a little uncomfortable but very tolerable. You might feel pressure, heat, and vibration. It’s also important to know that the handpiece’s tip is chilled to mitigate some of the heat you experience. One of the biggest advantages of Thermage FLX is that there’s minimal downtime involved — you may experience mild redness and some swelling for about a day afterward but that’s it.

4. What is the timeline for results?

Results from Thermage FLX start to work almost immediately. That’s because collagen production kicks in quickly, so you’ll notice skin tightening and firming right away. But the best part of this treatment is the secondary collagen production continues to occur over time. Many patients notice that around six months after treatment is when they see significant tightening and firming of their skin.
