Home remedies and skincare tips for sensitive skin
Some people are born with sensitive skin, while others develop it later on in life. Women’s skin, in particular, changes with age and circumstances, such as after giving birth. This means that regular over-the-counter skincare products can irritate your skin. Rest assured, though, there are many DIY treatments and lifestyle changes that can keep your skin problem-free (and glowing as a bonus)!
1. Ditch scented products
When looking for skincare products, be sure to choose ones marketed as hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. Many scented skincare and beauty products can actually cause the skin to break out or become irritated. For a gentle cleanser, LaserAway Beauty’s Come Clean Purifying Face Wash is a gentle cleanser that is made using a fragrance-free formula free of harsh sulfates.
2. Moisturize with coconut oil
When applied to the skin, coconut oil penetrates deeply into the pores, moisturizing from within without causing irritation. Be sure to moisturize your skin right after getting out of the shower. This will help to lock in hydration.
3. Stay hydrated
Water is essential to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized from within. It also helps to flush out toxins in your body. Be sure to drink one to two liters of water a day. Add some cucumber and berries to water to enhance its flavor.
4. Create a chocolate mask
Cocoa powder is naturally filled with antioxidants that soothe skin. Mix cocoa powder with some raw honey and milk to form a paste. Apply to dry skin and leave on for ten minutes, then rinse off to brighten your skin.
5. Stay out of the sun
Too much heat not only damages skin cells but can also lead to skin rashes and irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. You should always wear a broad-spectrum, hypoallergenic sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather, to protect your skin against sun damage, wear barrier protection like hats and long sleeves, and stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
6. Apply potatoes to your skin
Not only are potatoes filled with nutrients and soothing, but they also remove dark spots and blackheads and act as natural lightening agents. Prepare a mask by grating a potato and mixing it with milk and a few drops of almond oil to form a paste. Then apply to clean skin and rinse off after 15 minutes for radiant skin.
7. Keep your skincare routine simple
Sensitive skin is easily overwhelmed, so it’s best to keep your skincare products simple. All you need to keep your skin in great shape is a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
8. Soothe your skin with avocados
Avocados do wonders for sensitive skin that’s battling dryness. Create an avocado face mask using half an avocado and one tablespoon each yogurt and honey. Mix the ingredients together in a bowl, apply to dry skin, and leave on for ten minutes.
