7 Ways to Recharge Your Mental Batteries

How to recharge when you’re running on low

Life has plenty of stressful moments, from taking on more responsibilities at work to moving across the country. Even positive life events, like getting married, can cause stress. When it seems like everything is happening all at once, it’s crucial that you carve out time for self-care regularly to feel your best. Need some help? Here are seven ways to recharge your mental batteries:

1. Get a little exercise

Exercise is hands-down one of the best stress-busters out there. Why? Because it releases feel-good hormones in the brain called endorphins. You don’t have to work out hard at the gym, either. You can do yoga, take a walk, dance, or hike a few times a week to help recharge your emotional batteries and combat stress.

2. Nap more

Feeling more tired than usual? A nap could be just what you need! Lack of sleep leads to increased stress levels — your body releases more cortisol, which can really drain you emotionally. Napping regularly has psychological benefits. It can provide an easy way to get some relaxation and rejuvenation.

3. Declutter

Is your living environment cluttered? What about your mind? If you want to clear your head, then you should do a little cleaning and decluttering. This could be going through your filing cabinet, clearing out your emails, and organizing your living room and office. You’ll find that you won’t feel so overwhelmed.

4. Try something new

Sometimes you need to shake things up to get out of a rut. Try something new — travel to a new place, take up a new hobby, sign up for a class, etc. This will help to refresh and reenergize your mind.

5. Do something nice for yourself

One of the most enjoyable ways to recharge your emotional batteries is to do something nice for yourself. Maybe that’s going to a spa, engaging in some retail therapy, or curling up at home with a good book. Whatever you enjoy, do it more often.

6. Meditate

If you haven’t tried meditation before, you should check it out. Why? Because meditation has been shown to lower stress levels and prevent burnout. It’s a practice that people use to achieve a mentally clear, emotionally calm, and stable state. The perfect activity to recharge your emotional batteries, right?

7. Talk to someone

Letting things bottle up inside of you will only further stress you out. One of the best (and most cathartic) ways to recharge your mental batteries is to talk to a psychotherapist regularly, who can help you identify solutions to problems in your life.

Charge up

Just like your body needs rest and fuel, so does your mind. To prevent burnout, carve out time to recharge your mental and emotional batteries. That way, you can make sure you’re running on full more often.
