Astrology has been around for over two millennia. Dating back 2,400 years to ancient Babylon, astrology began to spread to other parts of the world, including the Mediterranean. But, by the end of the 17th century, astrology in the Western world had declined. However, the first modern astrologer, Alan Leo, revived astrology during the early 1900s. Today, astrology is still widely popular—and the beauty of it is that you can either take it seriously, view it as a fun hobby, or ignore it completely.
There are 12 star signs represented in astrology, and each one comes with unique personality traits, including certain strengths and weaknesses. Interested in learning more about what your astrology sign says about you? Read on.
1. Aries (March 21 to April 19)
Aries signs are ambitious, enthusiastic, driven, creative, and natural leaders. Their competitive nature contributes to many successes in life, and they aren’t afraid of challenges!
Because Aries are so motivated, they have a strong need for attention and recognition. This can come off as self-centered and push others away if it’s not kept in check.
2. Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
Taurus signs are hard workers who achieve their goals, even when it’s challenging. They also have amazing intuition and are very knowledgeable. What others love most about Tauruses is that they are extremely dependable and communicative.
Tauruses are known to be quite stubborn, which comes out when they don’t consider others’ opinions. Learning how to compromise can help Taurus signs in many social situations.
3. Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
Gemini signs are naturally social butterflies who make friends super easily. They have bubbly, infectious personalities and good senses of humor, meaning they tend to be extroverts.
Geminis can be seen as wishy-washy because they tend to switch up their thoughts and opinions a lot. They also have short attention spans and live in the moment, making them less reliable. Because of these tendencies, Geminis may be written off as superficial.
4. Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Cancer signs can empathize with almost anyone, and this is where their nurturing instincts and natural intuition stem from. They often find themselves acting as caregivers to friends and family, and Cancers’ lovingness is one of their greatest assets.
Because Cancers are so sensitive and in tune with their emotions, they can sometimes come off as moody. Cancers are also prone to acting passive-aggressive and controlling and tend to retreat when others’ moods fluctuate.
5. Leo (July 23 to August 22)
Leo signs tend to be very charismatic and lovable. They are often described as bright and fiery. Leos are also highly creative and generous and have the ability to make strong connections with others.
Leos sometimes come off as demanding without realizing it — they need to feel noticed and appreciated, which can turn some people off. Remember to give others some attention, too!
6. Virgo (August 23 to September 22)
Virgo signs are conscientious, considerate, and practical. They work very hard and care deeply about others’ happiness. Always wanting to help others, Virgos are dependable and resourceful.
Because Virgos are detail-oriented and love to be in control, they can come off as perfectionists. Virgos also tend to overextend themselves, skipping out on self-care. This can lead to burnout.
7. Libra (September 23 to October 22)
Libra signs love being around people — it’s easy for them to make and keep friends. Known for having exceptional intelligence and manners, Libras have the natural ability to resolve conflicts.
Since Libras are natural people-pleasers, they can sometimes come off as being disingenuous. But, when Libras feel like others don’t reciprocate in trying to please them, they can feel slighted.
8. Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)
Scorpio signs know exactly what they want — they are incredibly ambitious and hard workers. Always on a quest for answers, Scorpios’ intensity and depth help build trust and lasting relationships with others.
Given that Scorpios are always looking for answers and deeper meanings, others sometimes find them too intense. But, if they can learn to chill out, they might be more approachable to others.
9. Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
Sagittarius signs love to pursue knowledge. They are not afraid to go beyond their comfort zones and work hard. Incredibly witty and charming, Sagittariuses easily engage others, especially with their storytelling abilities.
Sagittariuses can come off as know-it-alls because they can easily become preachy and impose their opinions. To avoid coming off as conceited and pretentious, Sagtittariuses should learn to give others space to talk and express their opinions and ideas.
10. Capricorn (December 22 to January 19)
Capricorn signs are very dedicated and disciplined, working their way to the top and achieving bold goals. Capricorns are also amazing leaders and enjoy taking the initiative in any aspect of life.
Others may view Capricorns as rigid and cold because they are too hardworking and serious at times. This leaves little room for surprises or spontaneity. Learning to live a little can go a long way.
11. Aquarius (January 20 to February 18)
Aquarius signs are deep creative thinkers with big ideas and unconventional attitudes. They love to assert their independence in every way possible. This makes Aquariuses natural-born leaders, especially because they love to stand out.
Aquariuses tend to be unique and eccentric, which means they might not be everyone’s cup of tea. They also like to share their different and special viewpoints, alienating others who don’t share those same views.
12. Pisces (February 19 to March 20)
Pisces signs are naturally kind and creative, meaning they forge passionate and deep connections with others easily. They also love to dream a lot and have vivid imaginations, which means Pisces have great ideas.
Since Pisces love to daydream, sometimes reality slips away from them, and they can be seen as flaky. They also get overwhelmed easily because they are so sensitive.
