Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. And if you’re single, Valentine’s Day can be a real downer. But it doesn’t have to be. Reclaim Valentine’s Day this year to make it more inclusive. Here are nine ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day when you’re single:
1. SPEND IT LOVING YOURSELF
Valentine’s Day gives you the opportunity to realize that you don’t need to have a significant other to feel powerful. It’s a good time for introspection and self-reflection. Why? Because learning to love yourself will allow you to open up your mind to nurturing romantic relationships in the future. Try saving a few positive affirmations to yourself.
2. HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about romantic relationships. It can also be about friendships. Spend Valentine’s Day hanging out with your closest friends. Celebrate all your closest friends.
3. GO OUT TO DINNER WITH YOUR FAMILY
Because Valentine’s Day is about celebrating all different kinds of love, you can choose to spend it with your family. Take them out for a meal, and really cherish all your family members.
4. SCHEDULE A SPA DAY
It’s always fun to pamper yourself. Valentine’s Day gives you a great excuse to do just that. Either buy a day pass to a spa or pamper yourself at home with DIY face masks and a bubble bath. If you aren’t into spas, then opt to do yoga or pilates instead. Turn Valentine’s Day into a self-care day!
5. NETFLIX AND CHILL
Spend the day watching movies that make you laugh. Check out some romantic comedies or binge watch your favorite TV shows. Whatever you decide to watch, embrace being carefree and lazy for the day.
The second week of February is Random Acts of Kindness week. You can choose to spend Valentine’s Day volunteering at your local community center or food bank. The bonus is that you might make new friends in the process.
7. START A JOURNAL
Start a gratitude journal where you write down a few things each day that make you feel grateful. Reflect on the things that are going well in your life or some experiences you’d like to have moving forward.
8. DO YOUR OWN THING
Do your own thing on Valentine’s Day. This means doing whatever makes you feel happy. It could be going for a hike, cooking a delicious dinner, lounging around in your pajamas, or exploring the city.
9. TREAT YOURSELF
Treat yourself this Valentine’s Day. Buy yourself some new shoes, take yourself out to a fancy dinner, or get a massage. Use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to do something nice for yourself.
Celebrate yourself and those in your life
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just for couples. It can also be about celebrating friends, family, and yourself. No matter how you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, make sure you have fun!
