1. Strict sun avoidance

The secret to preventing early signs of aging is to avoid the sun. In fact, sun exposure accounts for 80 percent of fine lines and wrinkles. If you can't avoid the sun, then always wear sunblock. You should choose a broad spectrum sunblock with a minimum 50 SPF. What's more, always wear a hat, glasses, and long sleeves whenever outdoors.

2. Buy a humidifier

Buy a humidifier, place it in your bedroom high up on a cabinet or some chairs and run it on full blast to increase the level of humidity. This helps to combat dry skin by restoring moisture in the air. Why the bedroom? Because you spend at least eight hours a day there. Dr. Kirby comments, "You'll be shocked how you wake up and your skin is glowing and dewy and looks beautiful."

3. Drink water

It's important to drink water consistently throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated. Dr. Kirby reports most people are chronically dehydrated because they mainly drink caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Start your day off right by drinking a large glass of lukewarm water in the morning. Continue drinking water during the day. Remember that hydration is imperative for skin fitness.

4. Avoid hot showers and baths

Using hot water to bathe leads to dry, itchy skin. It also strips your skin of its natural oils. Similarly, bath salts dry out skin. Showers should be 90 seconds or less, and you should only use lukewarm or preferably cold water. Why? Because cold water results in tighter pores and suppler skin.

5. Use vaseline

Vaseline seals in skin's natural moisture by forming a protective barrier on its surface. Buy some generic vaseline and tube socks. Before going to bed, apply vaseline to both your hands and feet. Then place tube socks over your hands and feet. You'll wake up in the morning with ultra soft, gorgeous skin.

In a nutshell, it's easier to prevent problems than trying to correct them. While the term "anti-aging" is all about correcting existing skin problems, such as fine lines and wrinkles, the term "skin fitness" is about preventing these problems from developing.
